Ethic In Islam

Ethics and morality has been discussed since the age of Socrates and Plato. The early philosophers tried to investigate and think on how human being should act in this life. Then, this contemporary philosophers too keep discussing the topic on ethics. Just like Kant, Stoics and many more. We can see here that human are tend to find out who we are and what should we do in this earth. This what we can call as inclination or fitrah.

In every religion, there are code of conduct or morality code including The Five Precepts in Buddhism, Reht Maryada in Sikhism, Code of Manu in Hinduism and many more. All of these strictly emphasized on how a human should act. This show that actually ethics lie in every religion. They stressed on doing good and avoid prohibitions. All of them have their own goals. How about Islam?

I would like to share my view and opinion about ethics in Islam. Ethics and morality in Islam are based on Al-Quran and Sunnah.

First, Islam really highlighted on God-consciousness. Either we are alone or not, we know that Allah is watching us and angles (Raqeeb and A’teed) will write down our single actions. Thus, we have no chance to escape from Him. Like we can see in some verses in Quran:

“Say, "Whether you conceal what is in your breasts or reveal it, Allah knows it. And He knows that which is in the heavens and that which is on the earth. And Allah is over all things competent.” (3:29)

Second, every deed that we do will be counted. And we will be given either reward or punishment. Once we do good deeds, so Allah gives us rewards. And once we do bad deeds, then we will be punished. The biggest reward surely we can enter paradise. Like Allah said in Quran;

“And whoever does righteous deeds, whether male or female, while being a believer - those will enter Paradise and will not be wronged, [even as much as] the speck on a date seed.” (4:124)

Third, every single deeds are completely will be judged. And on the day of judgement, there is no one who can help us. Nothing are able to escape from that day. Our mouth will be sealed. And the whole body will be the witnesses on our deeds.

“So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it, And whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it.” (99:7-8)

Hence, the conclusion here is religion provide the best way of life. The one who created us knows better about us. Like the watch maker; he knows the watch better than others. He knows about the system, small screws, type of battery used and so on. The same goes to human being. Allah knows us more than ourselves. And in every His commandments and prohibitions, there lie seen and unseen benefits. May He grants us with His paradise.
