Zul-Hijjah is the twelfth month in the Islamic calendar. The meaning of this month is Hajj or pilgrimage. This is a sacred month and fighting was not allowed in this month. First ten days in the month of Zul-Hijjah are very important. Hajj is performed on these days and fasting on these days is taken equivalent to fasting for the whole year. Marriage of Hazrat Fatima (R. A.) took place with Hazrat Ali (R. A.) in this month of Zul-Hijjah. Martyrdom of Hazrat Umar (R. A.) took place on the 27th day of this month of Zul-Hijjah. This month is also associated with the martyrdom of Hazrat Usman (R. A.). These are some important events which took place in this holy month of Zul-Hijjah.
